Malcolm X Still Resonates

◼︎WORKING-CLASS POLITICS
◼︎BLACK LIVES MATTER

We are living in a powerful political moment. This seems a good time to go back and listen to the insights and perspectives of Malcolm X. Although it’s been 55 years since his death, we’re still facing the same issues he spoke about. His words resonate as much now as then. Perhaps more.

These videos I’ve assembled here are from the last year of Malcolm X’s life before he was assassinated on February 21, 1965. His views were evolving rapidly after breaking with the Nation of Islam in March 1964 and going on pilgrimage to Mecca a month later in April. During that trip he visited Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Ghana, Morocco and Algeria. The experiences and people he met had a profound impact on him.

CBC-TV’s Front Page Challenge

On January 5, 1965, Malcolm X was interviewed by a panel on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s program, Front Page Challenge.

Oxford Union Debate

A month earlier, on December 3, 1964, Malcolm X participated in an Oxford Union Debate in England.

Militant Labor Forum

Malcolm X spoke three times at the Militant Labor Forum in New York City. The Forum is held across the country by supporters of the Militant newspaper, a socialist newsweekly published since 1928 in the interests of working people.

I’ve found audio for two of his three appearances — the first and third, I believe. There were other panelists with him, and questions or comments from the audience.
