It’s Not Like They Didn’t Know

I wrote here a few days ago about how the incoming Trump Administration disbanded the White House’s National Security Council Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense, slashed CDC funding — and basically dismantling its entire infrastructure and firing its in-house expertise for dealing with a global pandemic. The details and citations are in my March 15 post.

Trump, of course, now denies knowledge of this and certainly denies blame. Nothing has ever been his fault. Any blame rests with Harry Truman; the buck stopped at his desk.

The overall question of blame is subject we need to take up as a society because of the implications going forward, but that’s beyond the scope of this post. I’ll come back to this later. We’ve got lots of time. I’ll just say now as a teaser that it’s not Trump — not fundamentally. He’s exacerbating the crisis for sure, but the true problem is way bigger than Trump.

The videos here show that scientists and the world’s governments have known of the threat of pandemic — and should have been acting to prepare against the threat. Others didn’t, the U.S. didn’t, and now here we are.

  1. This is one of the most telling posts to demonstrate that the people running our country are definitely not looking out for most American citizens.
