Gays are Essential to Humanity

MarkE Miller of Everyday Productions is‍‍‍ one of my favorite vloggers on YouTube. He’s a great guy, his videos can be beautiful, and he consistently conveys a positive message: “Everyday is a Great Day.” And he’s from Ft. Wayne, so that’s a huge plus too. Tonight I watched his video below and then the TED Talk video he referenced. I immediately wanted to share them both here.

The TED Talk speaker is James H. O’Keefe, MD. His bio on YouTube says he “is a Board Certified Cardiologist and Director of both the Charles & Barbara Duboc Cardio Health & Wellness Center and the Preventive Cardiology service at Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute. He is also Professor of Medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. His postgraduate training included a cardiology fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr O’Keefe is board-certified in Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Nuclear Cardiology, and Cardiac CT Imaging. He is consistently ranked among the ‘Top Doctor’ lists regionally and nationally as one of America’s Top Rated Physicians in Cardiology. He has been named as one of USA Today’s Most Influential Doctors. Dr O’Keefe has contributed more than 300 articles to the medical literature and has authored best-selling cardiovascular books for health professionals including: The Complete Guide to ECGs (which is used for Cardiology Board Certification), Dyslipidemia Essentials, and Diabetes Essential.”

O’Keefe gets into some pretty deep stuff I’ve never heard before and which I’m sure scientists could debate. But his message is very positive and he challenges the notion that homosexuality goes against the natural order of things. Gay rights opponents often say this as justification to oppose same-sex marriage or even our right to a job. As O’Keefe points out, homosexuality has existed in humans and other species at generally consistent levels across time. (I mean, seriously… Do animals sin and go to Hell?)

Is homosexuality a variant in the natural order of things? Yes. Against the natural order of things? No.

But O’Keefe goes further to assert that homosexuality is essential to the natural order of things.
