Given enough time, capitalism is going to extinguish life on Earth — or at least make it really miserable. OK, not tomorrow. Not next month or next year. But sooner than we think.
Climate change is progressing at a pace faster than scientists have predicted. They claim there is still time to take preventative action — literally less than two years — but there’s simply no chance this will happen. None. Zero. When all decisions are driven by the profit motive and anarchy of the capitalist economy, exacerbated by global competition and conflict, it’s just not going to happen.
Our survival depends on ending capitalism. Only through a planned economy can decisions be made and action taken that’s rational and science-based, where workers participate as controllers of their destiny and not victims of the wealthy. This is not an anti-Republican, pro-Democrat post. Neither party can help — both are very much the problem.
