DeWine spent some time today talking about Ohio House Bill 6 passed last year and now a focus in the $61 million public bribery case that resulted in arrest this week of Ohio Speaker Larry Householder. DeWine is now calling for the repeal of House Bill 6. The bill had approved bailouts for the Davis-Besse and Perry nuclear plants.

Today DeWine has issued a statewide mask mandate effective 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23. He also issued a travel warning for people entering Ohio from Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, South Carolina and Texas. People arriving here from these states will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days.

Today was not a normal press briefing with questions. Instead, DeWine delivered an evening address regarding the seriousness of Ohio’s situation as spread is increasing. We have a second chance to contain it, he said, and emphasized we won’t get a third.

In this first press briefing of the month, DeWine presented a set of 5 guidelines for reopening Ohio schools this Fall. A Planning Guide for Ohio Schools and Districts has been issued.
DeWine also introduced a new color-coded Ohio Public Health Advisory System.
