Special Update
Friday, May 14, 2021

Things are moving fast this week! Yesterday the CDC revised its guidance on mask wearing making Ohio’s policy more stringent than the national recommendation. Accordingly, Governor DeWine promptly revised the Ohio Orders to match the CDC guidance. This report from WBNS-TV in Columbus explains it all.

Today’s big news:

  • Ohio’s statewide COVID Orders will end June 2nd.
  • Statewide drawings for the next 5 weeks will award 4-year scholarships to students and $1 million to adults that have been vaccinated.

Today Governor DeWine delivered a statewide address reviewing the on-going fight against the Coronavirus and the progress achieved with vaccinations underway at over 1900 locations across the state. He reported that Ohio is now running a little over 100 cases per 100,000. According to the CDC, Ohio has the lowest rate of all the neighboring states. In response, DeWine has declared that all statewide COVID orders will lifted effective June 2nd. Everyone will be left to their own discretion on wearing masks, etc., but he said some businesses may choose to continue requiring them.

To encourage youth and others to get vaccinated, the state will conduct weekly drawings for the next 5 weeks. Youth age 18 and under who are vaccinated will be eligible to win a 4-year scholarship including room & board. Adults over 18 who are vaccinated will be eligible to win $1 million. Now that’s what I call a great shot in the arm!
