A Statement by the LGBTQ+ Community at my Alma Mater

Posted to Facebook by Spectrum Kent State on Sunday, April 23, 2023.

Dear Kent State LGBTQ+ Family,

We, the undersigned, stand in solidarity with the trans and queer communities across our eight-campus system during this very challenging time. From the house and senate bills that are trying to limit diversity and belonging efforts in higher education, to the legislation across the state that is attacking the trans community, to the racist acts of vandalism in campus buildings, to the hateful rock incident and accompanying rhetoric against trans people in our own university community — this is a frightening time to be part of the LGBTQ+ family. We stand with all Kent State LGBTQ+ people and want you to know that you are not alone. You are loved and supported by your family across our university system. Please connect with us if you need support, resources, or just a place to feel safe and comfortable. We refuse to be silenced by hate, and we will continue to stand side-by-side against bigotry and violence in our community.

With strength and love,
